US Consul lunches with Chamber, visits businesses

US Consul General Anne Callaghan is visiting Campbell River May 31st to tour several businesses and speak to a Chamber of Commerce luncheon about the importance of Canada-US trade relationships in challenging economic times.

Chamber Executive Director Colleen Evans says: “The purpose of Ms. Callaghan’s visit is to better understand existing and potential business opportunities in Campbell River.”
The tours will give local entrepreneurs an opportunity talk about their US customer base and their plans, if any, to expand in US markets. As well, the tours will be an opportunity for the Consul to better understand cross-border trade challenges.

The luncheon at the Coast Discovery Inn is being sponsored in part by the BC Salmon Farmers Association.
Association Executive Director Mary Ellen Walling says: “It’s great that the US Consul General will be coming to learn more about our farmers and the important companies that provide supplies and services to them.
“The US market is important to our members and we appreciate the opportunity to share information about the opportunities we provide locally.”

Ms. Callaghan is a career US State Department Foreign Service officer with the rank of Minister Counselor. Before her assignment as Consul General in Vancouver, she was posted in southeastern Iraq overseeing the Maysan Provincial Reconstruction Team. She has also served as Minister Counselor for Public Affairs in Rome and Bogota.

Lunch tickets are $33 for Chamber members or $40 for future members plus HST. They can be purchased online at: www.capbellriverchamber.ca/events. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for networking.
