The Campbell River Chamber appreciates the challenges faced by Mayor and Council with limited revenue sources and supports a broader discussion around local government financing. Municipal decision-makers want to be efficient and deliver value for local services and taxpayers need to know how their tax dollars are spent and how their services compare. Our community has experienced difficult times requiring residents and businesses to make hard decisions to keep up. The Chamber believes that City Hall needs to address spending that ensures municipal tax increases and spending that is within our means. The Chamber expects our local government to maintain transparent accounting practices, prudent spending and efficient service delivery and highest level of fiscal accountability on behalf of taxpayers.
Business recognizes that government has a fundamental role to play in providing the infrastructure, both physical and societal, that is essential to a vibrant, sustainable business climate. The Chamber has been consistent in expressing our concerns to improving the efficiency and accountability of local government and that local government resources be appropriately directed and provide value to the taxpayer. The Chamber encourages local government to have ongoing transparency throughout the budget discussion and the voting record of individual councilors on resolutions.
