Campbell River & District Chamber of Commerce President & CEO

KIMBERLEY, BC (September 10, 2012) Campbell River & District Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Colleen Evans was recognized by her peers with the Gerry Frederick Memorial Executive of the Year Award at the British Columbia Chamber Executives (BCCE) AGM and Conference held over the weekend in Kimberley, BC.

The award is presented annually to a chamber executive who has made a difference in their community, fostered membership growth in the chamber and has been willing to take risks to achieve change. The award also recognizes an executive who has served as a champion of the chamber network, as a mentor to new executives and deemed to be a leader by their peers and their chamber.

In presenting the award, BCCE President and last year’s award recipient, Peter Roaf, Executive Director of the Delta Chamber of Commerce, said Colleen was an outstanding role model of chamber management and leadership. In the four years she had been in her position she had added tremendous value to membership in her chamber and had been instrumental in economic development of her community and region.

Campbell River & District Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Gary Thulin says: “Since Colleen was hired in 2008 she has taken our Chamber to a whole new level of active involvement and respect throughout our community and among our business leaders. Colleen's experience, business acumen and personality have allowed the Campbell River Chamber to flourish and grow into a dynamic and vital organization respected and partnered by other organizations.”

According to Rachel Blaney, Executive Director of Multicultural & Immigrant Services Association of North Vancouver Island: “Colleen’s astute business sense, insight and warm personality have brought the Chamber forward on many levels. She has earned respect and established valuable working relationships throughout the business and first nation community. With a strong work ethic and unflagging enthusiasm Colleen has fearlessly led the Chamber through a number of projects.”

Colleen moved from Calgary in 2008 to take her position at the Campbell River & District Chamber of Commerce. In Calgary she had served as Vice President, Fund Development, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and, prior to that Vice President, Fund Development (and earlier, Director, Fund Development & Alumni Relations), at the Alberta College of Art & Design (ACAD). Director, Development & Marketing, Canadian Red Cross Society, and Director, Marketing and Public Affairs, Trizec Properties & Trilea Inc.

The British Columbia Chamber Executives Society was founded in 1981 to promote and deliver professional development to the executives of chambers of commerce throughout the province.
