A Business Enabling Environment
A positive business environment in Campbell River will foster business development and growth for our existing businesses and overall economic growth for our community. In response to our annual member survey, our members identified creating a business enabling environment as their number one critical area of emphasis for 2010.
In support of our members, the Chamber is in the process of developing indicators to measure the current business environment and pinpoint the hurdles and barriers as well as strategies and solutions to overcome them.
As part of this initiative, the Chamber has been actively and assertively advocating the importance and contribution that our member businesses make as generators of quality employment and sustainable creators of wealth for our community.
As we continue our advocacy, we are engaging in public-private dialogue with our members, the city, prospective Chamber members and industry sector, as an essential element of business enabling environment reform.
The benefits of this engagement have been the opportunities to identify examples of what those barriers are and then provide focus for issue specific recommendations to the City and other community stakeholders.
Most recently, in conversations with the City, the Chamber has focused our advocacy discussions around concerns related to licensing and inspections as they relate to business development. Those conversations and written correspondence to the city have highlighted areas that we are encouraging the city to address, particularly as it relates to regulations, effective communications and timely and proactive administrative processes. The response to our concerns from the City has been positive and we welcome and look forward to the new proposed city processes that are under review by the city.
As we continue taking action that will lead to an improved business enabling environment, we welcome your input and encourage your participation in the process to identify barriers, hurdles and most importantly, solutions. Please contact me at the Chamber if you would like to discuss this further.
We look forward to representing our members and the voice of business in discussions that lead to an enhanced business environment and save our members and their businesses time and money.
A strong competitive advantage for Campbell River, to retain our existing businesses and attract future businesses to our community, is to have a transparent, proactive business enabling environment that unleashes the full potential for the entire enterprise of Campbell River.
