Get INVOLVED

Volunteers are vital to the success of the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce. With over 25 events annually, standing committees, special task forces, and an active member program, the need for dedicated individuals is high. 
At the Chamber, we make all attempts to match the "right person to the right job" in order to make your volunteer experience an enjoyable and interesting one. In addition, we offer a wide range of opportunities with varying time commitments to accommodate the needs of our membership and their busy schedules.

​Policy & Advocacy committee

Composition:
The Chair and Vice Chair position for the committee will be recommended by the committee and ratified by the Chamber Board.
  • Chamber Board Chair, one (1) other Director and the Chamber CEO
  • Other committee members may be appointed or apply to sit as a committee member.
  • Committee members are appointed to serve for a one year term, renewable for additional one year terms.
  • Committee members are expected to participate in the research development and the development of the resolutions and policies.
Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Government Affairs Committee is that as the ‘Voice of Business’ in Campbell River, we are committed to a positive business climate that advances existing businesses and attracts new economic opportunities to our community. The Government Affairs Committee provides the opportunity to constructively influence public policy to support a healthy private enterprise system.
Strategic Objectives: To review the BC Chamber Policies on an annual basis in preparation for voting at the BC Chamber AGM; and identify opportunities for the Campbell River Chamber to develop policy submissions that can be brought forward at a provincial level to the BC Chamber AGM.
Scope/Authority:
  • Members of this committee share their expertise, offer advice, discuss issues, and if appropriate develop policy to bring forward to the BC Chamber AGM based on their review of current BC Chamber policy and/or development of new policy.
  • Issues can be brought forward a number of ways, including: by the advocacy committee, directly by chamber members, chamber staff, committee members, BC Chamber policies.
  • The committee will use the BC Chamber principles of effective public policy guidelines and principles to develop policy submissions.
  • Issues which fall under the purview of this committee include, but are not limited to the following: Aboriginal relations and reconciliation; Advanced education; Agriculture Community, sport and cultural development; Education; Energy and mines; Environment; Finance; Forests, Lands and natural resource operations; Health; Jobs, Tourism and innovation; Justice; Labour, Citizens services and open government; Office of the Premier; Transportation and Infrastructure.
Desired Outcomes:
  • Conduct an annual review of the current BC Chamber policies to identify key priorities for the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce that have high potential to impact our Chamber members.
  • Proactively participate in policy development for the region.
  • Connect with all levels of government both elected officials and staff.
  • Be a catalyst for positive change for members and business that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their operations.
  • Participate in the development of public policy as it affects economic growth and development.
  • Advocate for improved government efficiency and effectiveness at all levels.
  • Cooperate with local economic development and planning departments.
  • Conduct surveys, polls, interviews and other information gathering tools to identify advocacy issues and opportunities to bring forward for consideration to advocate at a local level
  • Work in collaboration with other community partners to advance advocacy efforts
  • Advocate on behalf of members.
  • Governance: The Chair will create the committee agenda in consultation with the CEO and chair the meetings. In case of the Chair’s absence the Vice-chair will fill the Chair’s role.
  • The committee will look to provide recommendations to the Chamber Board
  • The CEO and Board Chair are the official spokespersons for the Organization.
Meetings:
  • Regularly scheduled meetings will occur on a quarterly basis
  • Special meetings or task force meetings may be called in addition to the regularly scheduled monthly meeting, or at the committee chair discretion
  • Members are expected to come to each meeting prepared to discuss and suggest ideas pertaining to the agenda items. There is an expectation that individuals will have read or researched any material pertaining to the topic to be discussed. This allows for members to participate fully and make suggestions or forward ideas.
  • The Committee may invite such Board members and outside parties as may be deemed necessary to attend meetings and assist in the discussion and consideration of the business of the Committee.
Resources and Budget: The committee may access the Chamber boardrooms and office equipment (photocopier, telephone, wireless internet, etc.) upon availability and with prior approval for meetings, gatherings or to suggest as an event location.
  • All expenditures and budgetary items must be pre-approved by the CEO or the Chamber Board of Directors.

operations COMMITTEES AND TASK FORCES

​A committee or task force set up for a short period of time for the completion of a specified task. These will be formed at the call of the CEO and terms of reference for the ad hoc committee or task force determined at that time. When activated, these committees or task forces must report to the CEO with findings, but cannot act unless directed by the CEO.

​Operations Membership & Marketing Committee

Composition:
  • Chamber CEO
  • Chamber Board Chair
  • Board Directors, minimum two
  • Other members as appointed
Responsibilities:
  • The Campbell River & District Chamber of Commerce Membership & Marketing Committee is responsible for providing expertise, advise and support for membership acquisition, marketing initiatives and event planning.
  • Ambassadors program
  • Industry advisory roundtables and sector roundtables
  • Annual review of membership stats
  • Annual review of membership rates
  • Event committees as required
